Definition of Jmaḥ

Allah says: 'And they rush (yajmahûn)' (At-Tawba: 57).

Al-jamûh originally refers to the horse that bolts and escapes its rider.

The meaning is: they run toward shelters with uncontrollable haste, fleeing combat like a runaway horse.

If they could find a refuge or some caves or any place to enter [and hide], they would turn to it while they run heedlessly.
