Definition of Fākiha

Al-Fākihah refers to fruits and what is eaten for pleasure, not staple food.

The Almighty says: 'And abundant fruit' (Al-Waqi'ah 32).

Tafakkaha means to enjoy fruits.

Al-fakīh is one who jokes pleasantly.

Surah Al-Mu'minun : 19 Meccan

﴿فَأَنشَأْنَا لَكُم بِهِۦ جَنَّٰتٍ مِّن نَّخِيلٍ وَأَعْنَٰبٍ لَّكُمْ فِيهَا فَوَٰكِهُ كَثِيرَةٌ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ﴾

And We brought forth for you thereby gardens of palm trees and grapevines in which for you are abundant fruits and from which you eat.

Surah Ya-Sin : 55 Meccan

﴿إِنَّ أَصْحَٰبَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ٱلْيَوْمَ فِى شُغُلٍ فَٰكِهُونَ﴾

Indeed the companions of Paradise, that Day, will be amused in [joyful] occupation -

Surah Ya-Sin : 57 Meccan

﴿لَهُمْ فِيهَا فَٰكِهَةٌ وَلَهُم مَّا يَدَّعُونَ﴾

For them therein is fruit, and for them is whatever they request [or wish]

Surah As-Saffat : 42 Meccan

﴿فَوَٰكِهُ وَهُم مُّكْرَمُونَ﴾

Fruits; and they will be honored

Surah Sad : 51 Meccan

﴿مُتَّكِـِٔينَ فِيهَا يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِفَٰكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ وَشَرَابٍ﴾

Reclining within them, they will call therein for abundant fruit and drink.

Surah Az-Zukhruf : 73 Meccan

﴿لَكُمْ فِيهَا فَٰكِهَةٌ كَثِيرَةٌ مِّنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ﴾

For you therein is much fruit from which you will eat.

Surah Ad-Dukhan : 27 Meccan

﴿وَنَعْمَةٍ كَانُوا۟ فِيهَا فَٰكِهِينَ﴾

And comfort wherein they were amused.

Surah Ad-Dukhan : 55 Meccan

﴿يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَٰكِهَةٍ ءَامِنِينَ﴾

They will call therein for every [kind of] fruit - safe and secure.

Surah At-Tur : 18 Meccan

﴿فَٰكِهِينَ بِمَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ وَوَقَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ﴾

Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire.

Surah At-Tur : 22 Meccan

﴿وَأَمْدَدْنَٰهُم بِفَٰكِهَةٍ وَلَحْمٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ﴾

And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire.

Surah Ar-Rahman : 11 Meccan

﴿فِيهَا فَٰكِهَةٌ وَٱلنَّخْلُ ذَاتُ ٱلْأَكْمَامِ﴾

Therein is fruit and palm trees having sheaths [of dates]

Surah Ar-Rahman : 52 Meccan

﴿فِيهِمَا مِن كُلِّ فَٰكِهَةٍ زَوْجَانِ﴾

In both of them are of every fruit, two kinds.

Surah Ar-Rahman : 68 Meccan

﴿فِيهِمَا فَٰكِهَةٌ وَنَخْلٌ وَرُمَّانٌ﴾

In both of them are fruit and palm trees and pomegranates.

Surah Al-Waqi'a : 20 Meccan

﴿وَفَٰكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ﴾

And fruit of what they select

Surah Al-Waqi'a : 32 Meccan

﴿وَفَٰكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ﴾

And fruit, abundant [and varied],

Surah Al-Waqi'a : 65 Meccan

﴿لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَٰهُ حُطَٰمًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ﴾

If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder,

Surah Al-Mursalat : 42 Meccan

﴿وَفَوَٰكِهَ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ﴾

And fruits from whatever they desire,

Surah 'Abasa : 31 Meccan

﴿وَفَٰكِهَةً وَأَبًّا﴾

And fruit and grass -

Surah Al-Mutaffifin : 31 Meccan

﴿وَإِذَا ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمُ ٱنقَلَبُوا۟ فَكِهِينَ﴾

And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting.
