Definition Al-lqṭa

Al-lqṭa according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

With damma of the first letter and sukun of the second. In language: the picking up from the earth. In the Law: property found on the road or elsewhere whose specific owner is unknown.

It was so named because it is usually picked up.

Al-lqṭa according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

It is property found on the ground whose owner is unknown; the word follows the pattern of dahika (laughter), an intensive form of the fa'il; since it is desirable property, it was made a metaphorical 'taker', being the cause of the taking by whoever sees it.

Al-lqṭa according to Al-Kulliyat (Al-Kafawi)

The thing you find cast down and take; so in al-Maghrib. In at-Tabyin: the luqta, with damma of the lam and fatha of the qaf, is an intensive agent noun; with sukun of the qaf, a passive noun, like duhika.

Al-lqṭa according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)
