Biography of Sa'id ibn Abd ibn Qays
B, S: Sa'id ibn Abd ibn Qays, and it was said: Sa'id ibn Ubayd ibn Qays ibn Laqit ibn Amir ibn Rabi'a, and it was said: Amir ibn Umayya ibn al-Harith ibn Fihr al-Qurashi al-Fihri.
He embraced Islam early, and he emigrated to the land of Abyssinia in the second emigration, according to the statement of all of them, as Ibn Shahin said it.
Abu Umar and Abu Musa related him.
I say: Thus Abu Umar and Abu Musa traced his lineage, but what Ibn al-Kalbi mentioned regarding this lineage, is that he said: Nafi' ibn Abd Qays ibn Laqit ibn Amir ibn Umayya ibn Zirb ibn al-Harith ibn Fihr, and he said: al-Harith ibn Fihr begot Wadi'a and Dabba and Zirb, and Zirb begot Ayish and Umayya, and Umayya begot Amir, and Amir ibn Umayya begot Abdullah and Laqit; so this sequence prevents it from being that the copyist erred in it.
And az-Zubayr ibn Bakkar traced his lineage, and he said: al-Harith ibn Fihr begot Wadi'a and Zirb, and Zirb ibn al-Harith begot Umayya, then he said: And among the children of Umayya was Nafi' ibn Abd Qays ibn Laqit ibn Amir ibn Umayya, who was with Habbar ibn al-Aswad on the day they intercepted Zaynab the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So he agreed with al-Kalbi in his lineage, except that the genealogists differ about more than this, and we only wished to draw attention to it, and Allah knows best.
