Definition of Jraʿ

Jari'a al-mâ' yajra'u: he swallowed the water.

And 'tajarra'ahu': he swallowed it gulp by gulp.

Allah says: 'He gulps it (yatajarra'uhu)' (Ibrâhîm: 17), describing the boiling water that the damned will drink with difficulty in Hell, painful gulp after gulp.

﴿يَتَجَرَّعُهُۥ وَلَا يَكَادُ يُسِيغُهُۥ وَيَأْتِيهِ ٱلْمَوْتُ مِن كُلِّ مَكَانٍ وَمَا هُوَ بِمَيِّتٍ وَمِن وَرَآئِهِۦ عَذَابٌ غَلِيظٌ﴾

He will gulp it but will hardly [be able to] swallow it. And death will come to him from everywhere, but he is not to die. And before him is a massive punishment.
