Definition of Makka

Makkah is the name of the sacred city.

The Almighty says: 'He is the One who withheld their hands from you and your hands from them in the valley of Makkah' (Al-Fath 24).

Makkah is also called Bakkah and Umm al-Qurā.

Indeed, the first House [of worship] established for mankind was that at Makkah - blessed and a guidance for the worlds.
Surah Al-Fath : 24 Medinan
﴿وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى كَفَّ أَيْدِيَهُمْ عَنكُمْ وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ عَنْهُم بِبَطْنِ مَكَّةَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ أَنْ أَظْفَرَكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرًا﴾
And it is He who withheld their hands from you and your hands from them within [the area of] Makkah after He caused you to overcome them. And ever is Allah of what you do, Seeing.
Surah An-Nazi'at : 28 Meccan
﴿رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّىٰهَا﴾
He raised its ceiling and proportioned it.
