by way of Ibn Wahb, on the authority of Amr ibn al-Harith, on the authority of Yahya ibn Sa'id, on the authority of Abd Allah ibn Abi Salama, on the authority of a man of his people called Usayd al-Muzani- who said: I came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, wishing to ask him. And with him was a man asking him, so he turned away from him twice or three times, then he said: «Whoever has an uqiyya and then begs, has begged importunately» [ (١) ] .
Ibn al-Sakan said: Its chain is sound, but I did not come upon his lineage. And Ibn Manda said: Ibn Wahb was alone in transmitting it.
181 z- Usayd ibn Uhayha
Son of Umayya ibn Khalaf ibn Wahb ibn Hudhafa ibn Jumah al-Qurashi al-Jumahi, the nephew of Safwan ibn Umayya, among those who accepted Islam at the Conquest.
Al-Zubayr ibn Bakkar said: So Uhayha ibn Umayya ibn Khalaf begot Usayd ibn Uhayha, and Usayd begot Ali, and he took the kunya Abu Rayhana, and he was among the companions of Mu'awiya, and he was an opponent of Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr, so he and his cousin Abd Allah ibn Safwan ibn Umayya disputed concerning his affair. So he traveled to Syria, and returned with the armies of Yazid ibn Mu'awiya. So he besieged Ibn al-Zubayr.
And he is the cousin of Abu Dahbal Wahb ibn Zam'a ibn Usayd ibn Uhayha.
And al-Fakihi related, on the authority of al-Zubayr, that he used to be called Ulayl- in the diminutive- and that he joined Abd al-Malik, who asked him to reinforce al-Hajjaj, so he reinforced him with Tariq with four thousand, and Abu Rayhana looked out over Abu Qubays [ (٢) ] , and Abu Rayhana cried out: Has Allah not disgraced you? Ibn Abi Atiq said to him- and he was with Ibn al-Zubayr: Yes, by Allah.
182 z- Usayd ibn al-Akhnas
Son of Shariq al-Thaqafi, an ally of Banu Zuhra. Umar ibn Shabba mentioned him among those of the Companions who dwelt in Medina. Ibn Fathun supplemented him.
[ (١) ] Al-Muttaqi al-Hindi cited it in Kanz al-Ummal, hadith number 16773, and attributed it to al-Bawardi, Ibn al-Sakan, and Ibn Manda, on the authority of Usayd al-Muzani, with fatha; Ibn al-Sakan said: Its chain is sound; and Ibn Manda said: Ibn Wahb was alone in transmitting it.
[ (٢) ] In MS A: fa-stawla (and he took control).
[ (٣) ] Abu Qubays: in the wording of the diminutive, as though it is the diminutive of qabas (a firebrand): and it is the name of the mountain overlooking Mecca, its face toward Qu'ayqi'an on its western side; it is said it was named after a man of Madhhij who took the kunya Abu Qubays because he was the first to build a dome upon it; al-Himyari said:
Abu Qubays and Abu Qabus are two names for the mountain of Mecca, and the shaykh of the mountains is said to be Abu Qubays, and it is said to be Bathir.
