Biography of Khalid ibn Sa'd
٢١٧٢- Khalid ibn Sa'd:
Ibn al-Asi «٢»: ibn Umayya ibn Abd Shams al-Umawi, Abu Sa'id.
His mother was Umm Khalid bint Habbab al-Thaqafiyya. He was among the earliest forerunners, it is said: he was the fourth or the fifth. The cause of his acceptance of Islam was a dream he saw, that he was at the brink «٣» of a fire, and his father wished to throw him into it, when suddenly the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, took hold of his waistband. So he awoke and came to Abu Bakr, who said: Follow Muhammad, for he is the Messenger of Allah. So he came and accepted Islam, and this reached his father, who punished him and withheld sustenance from him and forbade his brothers from speaking to him. So he hid himself until he later went out to Abyssinia, and he was among those who emigrated to the land of Abyssinia, and there his daughter Umm Khalid was born to him.
Ya'qub ibn Sufyan said: Abu Ghassan narrated to us that Ishaq ibn Sa'id narrated to him, he said: Sa'id ibn Amr ibn Sa'id and my two brothers informed me, on the authority of Umm Khalid bint Khalid - and her father was among the emigrants to Abyssinia, and she was born there.
And Ibn Sa'd reported by way of Sa'id ibn Amr ibn Sa'id ibn al-Asi, on the authority of his paternal uncle Khalid ibn Sa'id, that Sa'id ibn al-Asi ibn Umayya fell ill and said: If Allah raises me up from my illness, the Allah of the son of Abi Kabsha shall not be worshiped within Mecca. So Khalid ibn Sa'id said: O Allah, do not raise him up.
And through it to Khalid ibn Sa'id, that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, dispatched him to the king of Abyssinia among a band of Quraysh.
(١) al-Haythami cited it in al-Zawa'id 3/42 on the authority of Anas ibn Malik.....
the hadith, and he said: al-Tabarani reported it in al-Awsat, and in it is Abu Muhammad al-Shami, of whom al-Azdi said: a liar.

He said: Isma'il alone transmitted it, and none transmitted it from him except Muhammad ibn Abi Shamla «١», who is al-Waqidi.
And Umar ibn Shabba reported, on the authority of Maslama ibn Muharib, he said: Khalid ibn Sa'id said: I accepted Islam before Ali, except that I used to be in awe of Abu Uhayha. Meaning his father Sa'id ibn al-Asi, and he was not in awe of Abu Talib.
And Damra ibn Rabi'a said: His acceptance of Islam was together with the acceptance of Islam by Abu Bakr.
And on the authority of Umm Khalid she said: My father was the fifth; he was preceded by Abu Bakr, Ali, Zayd ibn Haritha, and Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas.
And Khalid and his brother Amr came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, together with Ja'far ibn Abi Talib from Abyssinia, and he witnessed the Umrat al-Qadiyya and what came after it, and the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, appointed him over the charities of Madhhij.
And Ya'qub ibn Sufyan reported by way of al-Zuhri, on the authority of Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab and others, that the first emigration to Abyssinia, in which there emigrated Ja'far ibn Abi Talib with his wife Asma' bint Umays, and Uthman ibn Affan with Ruqayya the daughter of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and Khalid ibn Sa'id ibn al-Asi with his wife. And likewise Ibn Ishaq said, and he named her Umayya bint Khalid ibn As'ad ibn Amir of Khuza'a.
And there will come a mention of Khalid in the biography of Farwa ibn Musayk.
And Sayf mentioned in «al-Futuh» on the authority of Sahl ibn Yusuf, on the authority of al-Qasim ibn Muhammad, that Abu Bakr appointed him over the borderlands of al-Sham during the Apostasy, and it is established in the diwan of Amr ibn Ma'dikarib that he praised Khalid ibn Sa'id ibn al-Asi when the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, sent him as a charity-collector over them, with a poem in which he says:
So I said to the seeker of good: If you come to Khalid ... we are gladdened, and you return content of mind, giving praise
