One authentic hadith (number 3467) makes up this category. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Abu Dharr: "you are weak"; general leadership is a trust, and it will be "a cause of disgrace and remorse on the Day of Resurrection", except for the one who takes it up in a legitimate way and fulfills what it imposes on him. Electing the imam therefore requires entrusting the charge to whoever has the real capacity for it.
