The section counts one authentic hadith (No. 6036) that specifies the conditions of sale: the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) “prohibited the price of a dog, the earnings of a prostitute, and the money paid to a soothsayer”. The rule sets an essential condition of the contract: the price becomes lawful only if the object sold or the activity paid for is itself lawful. It thus guides the everyday assessment of the validity of sales.
